A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of red disc bearing a looped gold gunners lanyard with a snap hook in base and the grip at the top projected and terminating in a gold fleur-de-lis, and upon the disc a gold V shaped bamboo stalk extending over the top and base with leaves projecting across an overall black circular scroll inscribed in gold letters LANYARDS at the top and OF LIBERTY in base.
The colors scarlet and yellow (gold) are for Artillery. The organizations performance of outstanding service in Vietnam, for which it received a Meritorious Unit Commendation, is commemorated by the leafed gold bamboo stalk bend in a V shape. The units historic World War I campaign service in Europe is indicated by the fleur-de-lis at the top. The black circular scroll alludes to the mouth of a cannon and the gunners lanyard is suggested by the units motto and the Artillery mission of the Group.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 14 November 1968. It was rescinded on 14 February 1975.
